ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 25 MAY 2026 EXTERNAL PREPAID ELECTRICITY VENDING SYSTEM DOWN DUE TO TECHNICAL INTERRUPTION The City’s Energy Management Directorate wishes to inform the public that it is currently experiencing technical difficulties affecting the external prepaid electricity vending system. As a result, customers are temporarily unable to purchase prepaid electricity tokens through banking applications, retail outlets, and other external/mobile vending platforms. The Directorate is working closely with third-party service providers to investigate the cause of the interruption and restore services as soon as possible. In the interim, customers are advised to visit their nearest Customer Service Centre or Sizakala Centre to purchase prepaid electricity tokens. Customers are kindly advised that these centres currently accept cash payments only for prepaid electricity transactions. The Municipality sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s patience and understanding while efforts are underway to resolve the matter.
